Why we chose mission

Whilst we were both at university, we were challenged to seriously consider serving the Lord Jesus in a less gospel-reached, less gospel-resourced part of the world. This resonated with our passions for Italy and for global mission that God had been placing on our hearts for some time. The inspiration and encouragement of previous generations of CMS missionaries certainly pushed us along this path!

Growing and challenging students with the gospel

We both grew significantly in our faith during our time at university, and it is our prayer that the GBU ministry may play a similar role for university students here. The university is perhaps the most hostile context to the gospel of Jesus, even in a “Christian” country like Italy. We think it’s vital that believing students are encouraged and built up in their faith, and that unbelieving students are challenged with the truth and beauty of the gospel of Jesus. We also hope to see God grow believing students to be intentional and courageous as they witness and share Christ with others.

Will you partner with us?

The gospel soil in Italy is hard! Most people have a Roman Catholic background but have been very effectively inoculated against the gospel. We feel very small in the face of such an overwhelming ignorance of the gospel of God’s grace, and we can only depend on God for the strength we need to preach his gospel here in Italy. For that, we need our partners in Australia to be interceding for us and for Italians, and to be sustaining us materially as we seek to hold out the light of life to anyone who will listen.
