Why we chose mission

Maki came to know Jesus while studying at university in Australia and we both grew as Christians through university ministries. After meeting some missionaries and attending a student camp in Japan over 20 years ago, we experienced the need the church has for ministry workers, particularly in Japan. It has now been 10 years serving with CMS and, God willing, we will continue to serve the Lord in Japan.

Establishing a Bible-based church in a growing region

In Nagano, we seek to evangelise, train, and raise up Japanese Christians to establish a Bible-based local church. Moving from a student ministry focused role in Tokyo, we plan to serve with a church plant in the gospel-poor area of Saku-Komoro. Only one hour by bullet train from Tokyo, the area has been growing as families take advantage of remote work. The towns are situated between the traditional and the modern, with residents ranging from farmers to white collar workers in Tokyo. There is a great need for Bible-reading churches in the area. Our prayer is that God might use the diverse mix of people to open many hearts to the gospel.
