Why we chose mission

Maki came to faith in Jesus while studying at university in Australia, and we both grew as Christians through university ministry. More than twenty years ago, after meeting missionaries and joining a student camp in Japan, we came face to face with how greatly the church—and Japan in particular—needs gospel workers. We have now served with CMS for over a decade and, God willing, we will keep serving the Lord in Japan for years to come.

Establishing a Bible-based church in a growing region

In Nagano we are working to evangelise, train, and raise up Japanese Christians so that a Bible-based local church can be established. Having moved from a student-ministry role in Tokyo, we now serve with a church plant in the gospel-poor region of Saku-Komoro—only an hour from Tokyo by bullet train. The region sits between the traditional and the modern, home to everyone from farmers to white-collar commuters, and it has been growing as families take up remote work. We have begun a community café and regular Sunday gatherings as we work toward opening the church. Relationships here are built slowly, and we are learning patience as we pray for the gospel to take root. Our prayer is that God would use this diverse mix of people to open many hearts to the gospel.
