I resisted and suppressed my cultural background for most of my life, until a minister challenged me about it. After this, God changed my heart to want to use my background for his glory. I work in a city that is both Middle Eastern and international, which has provided many opportunities to utilise my bicultural background for God’s kingdom.
A large percentage of my city’s population are expats from various cultures and beliefs, many of whom are open to new people and new ideas. I am a part of an international expat church, where more than 80 different cultures attend. As people cannot gain permanent residency in my city, everyone eventually leaves and most return to their home country.
The aim of our church is to introduce people to Jesus, then train and equip them to take the gospel and other ministry skills with them, to share with those in their home countries.
My focus is on the young adult ministry at church and running training courses in Arabic and English. We have several young adult ministries, which aim to “make mature disciples that love and prioritise God, the church and the lost”. This is particularly challenging when their jobs are so demanding and the pull to focus on earthly things is so strong.
My city’s unique location as a checkpoint in the Middle East has also enabled our church to serve in nearby countries. In God’s providence, I have been able to use my Arabic speaking in this exciting ministry.
I cannot do this ministry alone. Would you partner with me in praying for people in the Middle East? Would you write to me so that we may mutually encourage each other? Would you consider financially giving to CMS so that together we can help young adults and people in Arabic-speaking churches grow in maturity and be trained to teach others?.
