Whilst working in student ministry in Sydney, we were challenged by the needs and opportunities in other parts of the world. In 2007 we arrived in Argentina with our four children to work with Asociación Bíblica Universitaria Argentina (ABUA), the Argentine IFES affiliated student movement. During the last 15 years we have been teaching the Bible to students and encouraging them to share the gospel of Jesus with their friends.
The city of Córdoba is a strategic centre for reaching university students who come from all over Argentina and other parts of Latin America to study at its public and private universities. However, many of these young people struggle to find their feet, both academically and spiritually.
Having worked with ABUA over the last 15 years, we have seen the way that many students struggle in the university context. Only 1 in 4 students who enter university actually finish their degree, and fewer still finish within the allotted time. Additionally, Christian students often don’t take advantage of the great ministry opportunities that this unique phase of life provides.
Our new project for 2024 is ‘Año Puente’ – a ‘Bridge Year’ for Christian students. The aim is to provide an integrated training program of discipleship and study that will include Spiritual Life, Biblical Theology, Christian Worldview, Vocational Guidance, Study Skills and Ministry Experience. We hope to see Argentine Christians enter university with a vibrant spiritual life, strong gospel convictions and the practical skills necessary in order to thrive and minister in their local churches and in the university context.
Please pray with us as we commence this new project. Although this is radical in the Argentine context, we are convinced that the impact, God willing, could be very significant for young Argentines, their local churches and university ministries. It is supporters like you that enable us to invest time and energy into the students here. Will you consider partnering with us in the gospel through prayer and financial support?
