Why we chose mission

Imagine a place where God’s Church is growing so rapidly that many local churches haven’t had time to grow godly leaders to serve. A place where believers are praying daily for people to come and equip them in God’s word and gospel ministry. One such place is Biharamulo, a rural town in Tanzania.

For many years now the Anglican Bishop of the Biharamulo Diocese has been asking CMS for people to come alongside him to serve God’s people there. At his invitation and under his leadership we will be joining the local believers in this important discipling work and developing long-term relationships.

The good news of Jesus Christ is God’s light for a dark and needy world. Knowing God in Christ has brought us immeasurable hope, joy, and purpose; it has transformed our lives. As people who know, love, and follow Jesus it is our privilege and desire to give ourselves to sharing this treasure with a world that desperately needs it.

A need for discipleship

God is at work in Biharamulo, it is the youngest diocese in the Anglican Church of Tanzania. They are planting more and more churches. As more churches are planted, there is an ongoing need for discipleship, but the leadership is spread thinner and thinner trying to meet these new opportunities. In the Anglican Bishop’s words, “there is a lot to do, and I hope Brenton and Melissa can play a part in helping our Diocese in training and discipleship.”

Training and mentoring leaders of the emerging churches in Biharamulo is vital. Under God we hope to disciple godly leaders who will equip others and serve Christ with their whole lives.
