Why we chose mission

Ashlynne: I grew up in churches where the Bible has always been open and central. I was troubled to learn that many people around the world didn’t have access to it in a language they understand. I studied linguistics and anthropology at university with the goal of becoming involved in Bible translation ministry.

Michael: Wrestling with Scripture for myself was a big part of my journey to fully understanding the gospel. Out of that experience God has really given me a desire to come alongside people and see them open and engage with the Scriptures for themselves.

A need for Bible translation  

Without engagement with God’s word in their own language, it’s difficult for believers to grow in their knowledge of Jesus and the gospel. 95% of Solomon Islanders identify as Christian – but only 5 of the 70+ languages in Solomon Islands have a complete Bible! Many communities are asking for help translating God’s word into their own languages as they seek to live for and serve Jesus. We have trained through SILA and are partnering with Solomon Islands Translation Advisory Group (SITAG) to add capacity to Solomon Island translation teams, with Ashlynne as a translation advisor and Michael coming alongside Solomon Islanders and helping them engage more deeply with scripture. As we begin our ministry, we’ll be focusing on learning language and culture.
