Why we chose mission

Tony is an Australian-born Vietnamese who came to hear about Jesus for the first time in Year 1 when his family was first invited to church. Yenli is an Indonesian who came to Australia as a university student and became a Christian after reading Ephesians 2 with a Christian friend. Together, we have 3 boys who love going to church each week and spending time with those in our community.

As we grew in our conviction that all people need to hear the name of Jesus, we prayed for opportunities to serve God wherever he would send us. As a family, we have been serving in various multi-ethnic and multi-generational churches in Sydney over the past few years. Along the way, God put in front of us Japanese friends and missionaries who shared to us the many opportunities for gospel ministry in Japan. This grew our desire to use our ministry experience in Japan to support and nurture the faith of the faithful as they seek to reach out to the lost.

Light in the darkness

Japan is in deep spiritual darkness, as materialism and the traditional Japanese religions of Buddhism and Shinto dominate a society which values harmony and homogeneity. Less than 1% of Japanese people trust Jesus, having counted the significant cost of following Christ. Like all Christians, they need encouragement as they persevere and shine as bright lights in a dark place. As we learn the Japanese language and culture, we will be working with Japanese church planters to start and establish new churches reaching out to the local community and supporting the faith of God’s people. Under God, we hope to be evangelising, modelling, discipling, encouraging and training Japanese church pastors, leaders and members as they share the gospel with other Japanese people.
