Why we chose mission

Along with the national evangelical alliance of France, we believe that by establishing disciples and planting new churches, people who haven’t yet encountered the gospel during their lives will have the opportunity to do so. People need to witness the transformation brought about when someone starts following Christ, and they also need to hear God’s word – perhaps for the first time.

Despite France being a historically Christian nation, less than 2% of people know and love Jesus. The evangelical church has limited reach and resources, and so struggles to share the good news effectively. As God challenged us to use our skills and experience outside well-resourced Sydney, we saw that he was opening opportunities for us to be involved in church planting in France. We have found this to be an amazing fit for our family and we recognise it all as part of God preparing us to serve him, in his sovereign timing.

An urgent need for church planting

Like many French cities, Nantes has a severe lack of churches relative to its population. To help equip disciples and expand the presence of church communities, we joined Perspectives, a church planting network and denomination. In 2021, we launched a church plant on the Island of Nantes, an inner-urban area of 20 thousand people, with ours being the only protestant church. Our family is part of a team that engages full-time in reaching our neighbours and forming a new church community. We pray that this community will be a tangible and visible witness to people and bring glory to God.
