Day 7

Training for mission

All CMS missionaries attend a 19-week residential program, which runs twice each year. The focus is on mission and cultural studies, other religions, Bible storytelling, and much more. The team helps prepare CMS missionaries in a host of practical ways for living and serving in a different context—from thinking about culture shock, to four-wheel driving.

Current QNNSW Missionary-in-training

Stephanie Hawkins started training as a Missionary-in-training (MIT) at the start of this year.

Recently she shared a snippet of her first few weeks:

“The key aims of this time at St Andrew’s Hall are for me (and the other trainees): to grow in relationship with God and others, connect with my future ministry location (God-willing, Austria), engage in cross-cultural relationships and prepare practically to serve with CMS.

We’ve begun working toward those aims by hearing each other’s stories, going on a culture mapping excursion to observe and then present our findings and reflections, and beginning reading on significant historical, cultural and missiological topics for our location. I’m really loving it so far!”

We look forward to seeing more of Stephanie’s journey with CMS and we continue to pray for her time at Saint Andrew’s Hall, and for the Lord to raise up many more new missionaries to train there in the future.

Ask God to raise up long-term cross-cultural gospel workers

Today we are praying for those who have enquired to become a CMS missionary, or for those currently going through the application process.

• Pray for Christian University students who are currently considering their future mission opportunities
• Pray for students in theological colleges as they consider their future ministry and mission opportunities
• Continue to pray for link churches to continue raising up people from their congregations to consider long-term global mission
• Pray for supporters to consider financially supporting new and existing CMS missionaries to enable them to serve cross-culturally.

The CMS prayer:

God of love, whose will is that everyone should be saved, bless the Church Missionary Society and all who have gone out in its fellowship to preach, to teach and to heal. Guard, guide and use them; raise up more people in your worldwide Church to pray and to work, to care and to understand, to give to you and to go for you, that your Church may grow, your will be done, your kingdom come and your glory be revealed: through Jesus Christ our Lord.
