Prayer is a vital way to partner with your CMS link missionaries! But have you ever found it difficult to know exactly how you should be praying for them?
We have put together a list of suggested mission prayers for you to bring before God on your own or during your next church service or Bible study. Feel free to use these prayers as a starting point as you pray for your missionaries.
Pray for CMS missionaries during COVID-19
Your missionaries would love to know that you are standing with them in prayer during the COVID-19 period. Here is a prayer you can be praying for CMS missionaries in this time.
Heavenly Father, we praise you for sending us your son Jesus, that in him we have freedom, forgiveness and eternal life.
As the coronavirus continues to spread throughout our world, we pray you will be at work everywhere, particularly in those locations hit hardest.
In this difficult time we pray that people all over the world will hear the news of Jesus, and come to a saving faith in him.
May your Spirit be at work through CMS missionaries as they share the gospel in appropriate ways. Help them as they find new ways to reach out and connect with believers and non-believers.
In your mercy, please provide a cure for the coronavirus. Help each of us respond in faith, hope and love as we look to the great security we have through your son, Jesus Christ. Amen.

God of love, whose will it is that everyone should be saved, bless the Church Missionary Society and those who have gone out in its fellowship to preach, to teach and to heal. Guard, guide and use them; raise up more people in your worldwide church to pray and to work, to care and to understand, to give to you and to go for you, that your church may grow, your will be done, your kingdom come, and your glory be revealed. Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Biblical prayers for your missionaries
Use these verses to pray biblical prayers for your missionaries. Why not let your CMS workers know that you are praying these prayers – and encourage them with God’s precious word?
“Because we loved you so much, we were delighted to share with you not only the gospel of God but our lives as well.” – 1 Thessalonians 2:8
Pray that your missionaries would be bold in sharing not only the gospel, but their lives as well with those they are ministering to on location.
“For I resolved to know nothing while I was with you except Jesus Christ and him crucified.” – 1 Corinthians 2:2
Pray for your missionaries to proclaim the good news of Jesus Christ crucified.
“If anyone speaks, they should do so as one who speaks the very words of God. If anyone serves, they should do so with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ.” – 1 Peter 4:11
Pray that your missionaries will speak God’s word clearly, and in his strength.
“But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.” – 2 Corinthians 12:9-10
Pray that your missionaries will see their weakness as an opportunity to show the power of Christ to those they are seeking to serve.
“Preach the word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage—with great patience and careful instruction.” – 2 Timothy 4:2
Pray that your missionaries will always be prepared to teach, encourage and correct people – and pray that they will do so carefully and patiently.
Other prayer points for CMS workers
- Pray for the spread of the gospel in places where missionaries are working.
- Pray for the many thousands of unreached people groups with no access to the gospel.
- Pray for Christians in troubled parts of the world.
- Pray for missionaries dealing with isolation, danger or other difficulties.
- Pray for the spiritual growth of missionaries.
- Pray for the children of missionaries, either on location or living away from their parents.
- Pray for those undergoing training in preparation for mission.
- Pray for God to continue to raise up new missionaries.
- Pray for the financial and practical needs of missionary organisations.
