Our Vision:

A world that knows Jesus

Our Purpose:

We work with churches to set apart godly people as long-term cross-cultural gospel workers.

Our Mission:

          – Reach gospel-poor peoples for Christ.
          – Equip Christians as leaders in the Church and in the world.
          – Engage churches in cross-cultural mission.

Our Core Purpose:

Is fulfilled as we mobilise more and more missionaries from Victoria to serve in North Australia and across the world.

Our Desire:

Is to see more workers, more robustly supported, more representative of our local evangelical communities, with a greater contribution towards the health of the Victorian church as we partner together to fulfill the Lord’s Great Commission.

Our Commitment:

Is to support our current workers well and to work with diligence and creativity to mobilise
future workers from Victoria.

We commit to developing and deepening the prayerful life of members of the Society, younger and older, across all our networks and churches. We commit to teaching and modelling lives of persevering prayer for kingdom progress in and through missions, including the prayer that Jesus gave us to pray: that we ask the Lord of the harvest to raise up workers for his ripe harvest fields (Matthew 9:38).
By 2030 we aim to have fostered twenty mission-focussed prayer gatherings in various networks and by various channels representing the diversity of our Society.

The future of CMS is inextricably linked to our ministry of calling next generations to vital and committed faith in Christ that leads them to prioritise God’s own priority of global missions in their lives.
By 2030 we aim to have expanded our children’s and youth ministries beyond the summer programmes to include through-the-year opportunities for engagement, leadership development for our volunteer leaders, and encouragement towards missionary ministry.

 

MISSION EDUCATION

“The means best calculated to increase the health of the local church is a vital commitment to world mission.”

The future of CMS is dependent on our network of local churches. Investing in their long-term health and vitality through our reporting of cross-cultural ministry impacts and insights is an investment in the long-term health of CMS.
Mission education is currently delivered through missionary deputation, Across Cultures, Bible storytelling via Windows of the Cathedral and other specialty events.
By 2030 we aim to further multiply our sphere of influence among churches across Victoria (2 Corinthians 10:12-13) with a particular focus on establishing strong networks of church leaders in Melbourne’s West, North and South-eastern growth corridors and in Bendigo.
By 2030 we aim to have a sharper practice of mission education through all our activities including deputation and next generations ministry.

 

CULTURAL DIVERSITY

The vision of the church in Revelation is our vision for our churches in Victoria. We long to see the cultural diversity of Victorian society reflected in the membership of CMS and in our network of partner churches. We are convinced that the power of the gospel to break down the dividing walls between cultures is the same power that energises and makes effective our missionary ministry.
By 2030 we aim to have 25 partnerships with culturally diverse groups and congregations.
By 2030 we aim to have a recognisably more culturally diverse missionary, staff and volunteer team.

 

PARTNERSHIPS WITH CHURCHES & OTHERS

CMS is not the church, but an interdenominational evangelical missions society that exists to serve the church as it makes known the manifold wisdom of God to the world.
We have more than 150 churches that contribute financially to our work. Some 600 churches are in our database receiving information from us.
By 2030 we aim to have 200 Victorian evangelical churches that choose to work with us; from an increasing range of denominations and regions and cultural groups. We will also deepen partnerships with theological colleges, student ministries and other parachurch agencies.
Our rich and deep Anglican history means that we will aim to keep investing in strengthening our Anglican partnerships. By 2030 we aim to have stronger formalised partnerships with Ridley College and each of the Victorian Anglican Dioceses.
